Mentee Surveys

At your next mentoring session, please have your mentee complete this survey. You can assure them that you will not see the results so they are able to answer honestly. It should only take a couple minutes and helps Intentional Mentoring gather data. Your coach will be in touch if we haven’t received it from your mentee in the next couple weeks.

Weekly Training Resource

This section is to remind you that mentors do 5 hours of training this year to continue to grow as a mentor. You may choose from any of the resources on the training spreadsheet. Highlighting a resource each week in this email is to allow you to just click and go.

This weeks training resource is one of the initial required trainings, about mental health.

How does this help me in my mentoring relationship? New mentors should watch all four trainings before starting mentoring. If you haven’t watched it in a while, it would be good to watch again to see what new aspects are relevant to your relationships.

Don’t forget to fill out the response form after completing each training.

Activity Idea for the Week

For November, the challenges will center around the theme of Giving Thanks. This week’s challenge is to practice saying “Thank You!” Here are a couple of different ways you could do this:

1) Take your mentee on an outing and plan to thank anyone who helps you in some way (serves you coffee or ice cream or food, clears your table, holds a door open, takes your movie ticket, drives the bus, etc.)

2) Make a plan for you and your mentee to keep track of how many times you thank someone in a week. The next time you meet, compare your numbers and share stories of who you thanked!

3) Thank your mentee for being who they are and for sharing themselves with you!

As you’re engaging with your mentee, be sure to talk, listen, share and learn together!

Tip of the Week

Symptoms of living in poverty, like symptoms of trauma, can show themselves differently in different people. In students, it may be acting out or withdrawing, absenteeism, sleep disorders, eating disorders, and hypervigilance, among others. The first step in supporting a student coming from trauma, is recognizing the situation, even if they may not be talking about it. ~Taken from www.nea.org Teaching Children from Poverty and Trauma.
