🦃From our families to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!🦃

Check out the Upcoming Events to Note section for a few new, and really cool, opportunities this week!

This week beings week 2 of our Giving Tuesday fundraising campaign. It has been such a joy to see stories, quotes and pictures of/from all of you on our social media platforms over the last week! For the next few weeks, continue to keep an eye out for daily social media posts and make sure you SHARE them on your own social media platforms. The amazing work that you do with mentees is what makes our program successful and this work is what we want people to hear about. Spread the word and let our community know that the work you do building relationships with students is worth every penny of their support.  @intentionalmentoringmadison (Instagram, Twitter) and Intentional Mentoring Inc (Facebook)

Challenge for the week:

For November, the challenges will center around the theme of Giving Thanks. Due to it being a holiday week and there being a high chance that you and your mentee are both busy, this week’s challenge is to check-in with your mentee at least once to remind them that you are thankful for them and see how they’re holiday is/was. For some this may be a wonderful time of celebration with family and friends, for others it may not. Hearing from you could be just what your mentee needs in order to put an extra smile on their face! As always, be sure to talk, listen, share and learn together!

BONUS CHALLENGE: There are numerous studies touting the benefits of practicing gratitude. Therefore, not wanting to ignore the experts and in keeping with the theme for the month, the bonus challenge for November is to give thanks daily. You might even try sending your mentee a text each day telling them what you’re thankful for that day and then asking them to share what they’re thankful for that day. Or, maybe you and your mentee start daily gratitude journals and hold each other accountable to filling them out daily. Find a way to give thanks and be grateful on a daily basis!

TIP of the WEEK: Stress, from any source, changes the structure and processes of the brain. Constant stress without relief, such as from living in poverty, increases the baseline resting stress of a person, lowers the immune system and, therefore, increases health and emotional issues. The good news is that the brain is capable of change! ~Taken from www.nea.org Teaching Children from Poverty and Trauma.
