Mentor Development

For May, the challenges will center around the theme of Live Healthy, Be Healthy. This week’s challenge is to get moving! Talk to your mentee about the importance of exercise and some options of how to get it in each day. Then, try some options out and see what your mentee likes best! Go for a bike ride, take a jog, grab friends and play Tag, play tennis or basketball or volleyball, go swimming, challenge them to a push-up contest or sit-up contest, jump rope, take a karate lesson…whatever you decide, just make sure you do it together and have fun while practicing healthy habits!

From May through August you will be discussing Mental Health and Empathy in your coaching meetings. Be sure to check out the articles and videos here.

As a mentor, it’s easy to slip into the role of trying to “fix” our mentees or show them a “better” way of life. However, at Intentional Mentoring, our goal is to have mentors walk alongside mentees. Your role is to nurture, listen, guide and provide support. Check out this video called White Saviorism for another perspective.

DIY Kite Making

Sunday, May 19 from 12-2p. This class aims to show you how to make three simple flyable paper kites with inexpensive materials with Thurber Artist-In-Residence Ash Armenta. Create and design your paper kite using repeating stamp patterns, stencils, and dye. After the class completes construction, everyone will have an opportunity to fly their own in Thurber Park (3325 Thurber Ave, Madison, WI 53714). (kids and adults welcome)
