Mentor Development

For April, the challenges will center around the theme of Earth Day. This week’s challenge is to get in the dirt! Plant a tree or some flowers or maybe pull some weeds. You could do this at your house, at your mentee’s house, at a neighbor’s, a school, a park…the options are endless! As always, be sure to engage your mentee in conversation while you’re getting your hands dirty!

Mentor Growth and Development Plan for February-April is here.

Look ahead to the May-August plan here!

Poverty and Trauma

Students living in poverty often live in an environment where the rate of discouraging words is higher than the rate of encouraging words due to the stress their parents/guardians are often under or because of their parents/guardians own personal trauma. For this reason, it’s important to consider how you’re flipping that ratio during the time you’re spending with your mentee.  ~Taken from www.nea.org Teaching Children from Poverty and Trauma.
