Mentor Development
For January, the challenges will center around the theme of Looking Ahead. This week’s challenge is to make a plan! Last week you and your mentee discussed where you hope your mentoring relationship is going. Now it’s time to action-step that plan. Each relationship’s action plan is going to look different but all of them should be SMART – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reachable and Timely. How will you take your mentoring relationship to the next level? Do you need to decide on weekly meeting days/times? Do you need to make a list of the activities you will do together? Do you need to create a list of topics to discuss? Whatever it is, decide together, write it down and keep it in a place that you can easily access so that you never forget what you’re working on!

Go for a short walk with your mentee!
A new study by Polish researchers suggests that walking through a snowy landscape leads to a greater sense of self-esteem. Lucky us.
While it’s different for everybody, it takes an average of 2,000 steps to walk a mile. Here are some brief walking routes for you to get your steps in no matter the weather.
Bear Mound Park loop, 2199 Vilas Ave. | 1 mile | 2,000 steps
This loop starts and ends at the easternmost end of Vilas Avenue, wrapping around Bear Mound Park.
Cherokee Marsh Bluebird loop, 6098 N. Sherman Ave. | .5 miles | 1,000 steps
Note that there are no dogs allowed at this conservation park.
Guided Arboretum hikes, 1207 Seminole Hwy. | 2-3 miles | 4,000-6,000 steps
Every weekend, guided hikes are offered which are great for multi-generational outings.
Tenney Park Breakwater, 402 N. Thorton Ave. | .25 miles | 500 steps
